The Inventory
The Inventory is set in a small French village on the day of Liberation, 1944. It follows Émile, a quiet and solitary figure who has spent four years of German occupation keeping a private ledger — a meticulous record of every act of betrayal he witnessed among his neighbors. As the town erupts in celebration around him, Émile moves through the streets clutching his notebook, wrestling with what it means, what it is worth, and what he owes the people whose names fill its pages.
When an unexpected visitor arrives at his door as darkness falls, everything Émile thought he understood about guilt, complicity, and forgiveness is quietly undone.
